| Edward Elric | Backstory |
Born in 1898, Edward was the eldest son of Trisha Elric and Hohenheim of the Light. Ed’s parents never married, and his father left his mother before Edward turned 3. Hohenheim’s departure made Edward very bitter toward his father. However, at a young age, both Edward and Alphonse were encouraged to study his profession, Alchemy, by their mother. By the ages 8 and 9 the brothers were very skilled in Alchemy, Edward having a natural gift in the science. Edward and Al were raised in the small country town, Rizenbol. After their mother’s death, Ed and Al tried to resurrect her with forbidden Alchemy, human transmutation. The event crippled Edward and took his younger bother’s body. Ed sealed his brother’s soul to a suit of armor and sacrificed his arm in the process. Ed replaced his limbs with automail and with Al set out on a journey to get their bodies back. At 11, Ed joined the military so he had access to the military library. It isn’t long before he discovered rumors of the philosopher’s stone and found himself in a political conspiracy. In order to return his brother’s body, Ed sacrificed himself, and passed though the Gateway of Alchemy, where he was trapped in another world (a technological world) where Alchemy didn’t work. Ed remained there for two years until the gate was reopened by his brother Al and the Thule Society. After a skirmish that nearly destroyed their world, the Elric Brothers decided to stay in the world of technology and seal the gate and seek out a weapon and scientist who escaped from the Alchemy world. In an attempt to complete his mission, and stop Huskinson, Edward tapped a new power source, which brought him to Torchwood. Appearance: Edward is golden blond, with gold eyes, and stand about 5'1. He's athletic, and is built like a gymnast or martial artist. He's 19. When not dressed in cloths from his native time, he is prone to wear dark clothing, mostly blacks with splashes of color. Personality: Edward hates being short. He loves being taken seriously, and has bouts of loudmouthed sarcasm. Edward Elric is short-tempered, often impulsive, and extremely bright, loves science, stubborn, arrogant, opinionated, and has a problem with authority. He's very loyal to those he cares for, especially to Al, and focused on his studies. So focused, he is often unable to see how much his abrasiveness affects others. He also, doesn’t care for the trappings of society for the most part, and is very much a rebel. However he can also be very kind and loyal to his friends, if approached right. And loves to talk alchemy and science if given a chance. He's actually got some understanding of the world around him and learned from his experiences. He also has a understanding of the darker sides of human nature. Ed's also sensitive, and his abrasive nature is a defence to protect himself from emotional injury, something he has a difficult time understanting. |
He is hyper, with ADHD tendencies and is often cluess when it comes to relationships and other people’s feelings. Making friends is difficult for him, and he tends to rely heavily on Al to be social for him. Abilities: Edward is a martial artist, and a gymnast, he is prodigy in Alchemy, and is able to see into the “truth” (think of a cosmic data base for information) to do his Alchemy. He can think extremely fast and is able to do alchemical conversions in his head when he is in combat. Alchemy is a magic that needs scientific principles to work. An understanding of chemistry, biology and physics are necessary to do alchemical conversions. For example an Alchemist can turn water into wine, or grass into bread as long as they can shift their atomic structure around and change their form or state. They cannot add matter that is not provided this is equivalent exchange. Here is some notes on Alchemy, note they are capable of using more than their own signature technique. Notes on the truth. It is implied in the movie there is more than one world out there, but the movie also contradicts the series in places. Edward lost his leg and arm as a child. It's been replaced with automail, a fully functional armored prosthesis. It has been shown occasionally automail causes occasional pain and is difficult on the user as well as heavy. Ed cannot swim because of his automail. Edward likes: Alchemy, apple pie, white sausages, reading, taking naps, black, reading, and rockets. He hates being call short and will on occasion, throw a fit over it... Edward's Growth Over the last few months, Edward has struggled to adapt to the modern world. He has fought to control his temper, faced his Shell Shock and his normal anti-social habits. He had made friends in Toshiko Sato, the 10th Doctor, Shawn Spencer, Winry Rockbell, and Martha Jones. His relationship with Isabel Evens has changed from lover to friend and has had it's ups and downs. Ed's own sexuality has only now started to emerge, and it has been a difficult struggle for him to understand that he was bisexual, and he was in love with the 11th Doctor. His biggest battle, over trusting others has yet to be faced, but he has slowly started dealing with the fact, that when you stay in one place you must trust, and that he can't deal with what life tosses at him alone all the time.
